## Artist Biography

### Khula Sikubuke (German Mabaso)

Born and raised in Utrecht, KwaZulu-Natal, German Mabaso – known professionally as Khula Sikubuke – began his musical journey under the stage name **Itshitshi Elimhlophe** (“The White Girl/Lady”). It was during this early period that he released his debut album, *”Umona Ubhokile”* (“Jealousy Has Pierced/Succeeded”), establishing his presence in the Maskandi scene.

The evolution from Itshitshi Elimhlophe to Khula Sikubuke represents more than a name change – it marks an artistic maturation. Where his early work introduced his voice and perspective, his music as Khula Sikubuke has deepened in both lyrical content and musical complexity, addressing themes of love, community, struggle, and triumph with the authenticity that defines true Maskandi.

Based in his hometown of Utrecht, Khula Sikubuke draws inspiration from the people, landscapes, and stories of his community. His music speaks to everyday experiences – the joys and challenges of rural KwaZulu-Natal life – in a way that resonates with Maskandi audiences across South Africa.
