Right on the foothills of Langalibalele Mountain Range (in Utrecht, Emadlangeni – KZN), blows a wind that made a sound come together, thus, Shwabada Nabadala was born. An experimental band: made up of Lindokuhle Xaba on guitar, Rocks Jubile on percussion, featuring Ndlovukazi on vocals.
The band produces guitar and percussion centered music, though there are plans to broaden the sound. But the influence will always give you a hint of Malombo as established by the late Dr.Phillip Tabane, Madala-line as coined by Dr. Madala Kunene, but what you will hear the most, is isiShwabada as rained by bandleader Lindokuhle Xaba’s babomncane, Sibusile Xaba.
The sound paints colourful Nguni visuals, with Ndlovukazi unearthing Zulu inspired deliveries bouncing on top of Rocks Jubile’s Ritual Jazz channeled drummings, all coming together in the spirit of Ntu to share the sound of the growing isiShwabada.
Shwabada Nabadala joins a collective of artists under the Kwantu Village Artists Residency programme, a growing idea of assisting in the development of various artistic expressionists platforms to grow more artists from around Mzansi. The compositions have been growing amongst this collective of friends, coworkers, artists and musicians – who are currently working on the the 1st official “Shwabada Nabadala’s” EP (Entry Project).
The initiative was started by the various artists, who work together under the Kwantu Village artists residency in the small nature / game town of Utrecht in KwaZulu- Natal (South Africa).
The band is made up of the following artists:
